why was grunge reffered to as "The Seattle sound"?

Simply put it is because the most famous and best grunge bands were based in seattle. That is also where the biggest and most popular and well known grunge record label was based. It was where Nirvana, Soundgarden and other good bands were based.

Why did grunge die after such a short period of time?

The reason is simple bands died. Kurt Cobain shot himself in the face with a 12 gauge, 0after doing cocaine, in a secluded room for a day. Soundgarden broke up Chris Cornell left them they had finally reached their mental block. Rage aginst the machine Pretty much the same thing that happened to Soundgarden. Alice in Chains to put it simply they got old same with PearlJam.

What was the record label most grunge bands started off in?

The record label that was the most popular was a seattle based label called.... Subpop.
Started in the late 80s or early 90s this now infamous record label was one of the first if not the first to support grunge. Without Subpop grunge might not have happened. It started such bands as Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and many other seattle based bands. Abotu 20 people work at subpop now and they are doing very well. They now host bands like The Postal Service, My favorite comedian David Cross, and Hot Hot Heat.

Who are the most succesful bands of the grunge era?

It would have to be Nirvana their catchy angry rock surprised the world. They were also one of the bands to go out with the biggest bang(literally). They also came out with the best albums ever created in such a short time.
Next would have to be Soundgarden. They were probably the second grunge band to air with such a big bang. They have sold some of the most grunge albums of any band ever.
Then it would probably have to be Rage Against The Machine(my personal favorite). Their amazing mix of Rap-Rock wasa fresh new change from regular grunge.
Next it would have to be PearlJam they were also one of the first to hot music so naturally they were one of the most popular.
Finally it would have to be Alice in chains see above answer.

Is grunge still as popular today as it was in the 90s?

No and it will probably never be as loved as it was when it started. Because there was so much raw talent when it first started. Many believe that the reason grunge started to decline was because of Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994, grunge music effectively began its decline. Ironically, Cobain had often been photographed wearing t-shirts stating that "Grunge is Dead".

This is a time line for grunges uprising and its downfall

1990-By this time many bands had signed up with the seattle record label subpop such as Soundgarden, Alice in chains, Pearljam, and the newest Nirvana. Nirvana also releases its first album called Bleach. It did not get an amazing response.

1991-1991 was probably the biggest year for seattle sound. With the realease of Nirvana's Nevermind, and Soundgarden's Bad Motor Finger. Both of which are still highly acclaimed by grunge lovers everywhere. During this time grunge had exploded onto all radio stations and was quickly becoming the most popular form of music in the country. While all this was going on there was tension between the two most popular bands Pearljam and Nirvana. Because of their amazing success naturally there was tension but Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder quickly resolved this.

1992-There was nothing to be said about 1992 it was the quietest year for grunge yet none of the most popular bands released any new albums.

1993-Nirvana releses its third album In Utero, which is incessantly compared to Nevermind. Pearljam also released an album called Vs. They later recieved a grammy for their performance of the song Animal.

1994-This was probably the worst year for grunge ever. Soundgarden releases its most popular album SuperUknown. On August 10th, 1994, Kurt Cobain, lead singer and guitarist for Nirvana shot himself in the head after shutting himself in his room without the knowledge of his wife or neighbours.
His suicide note (and everything else about his life), have subsequently become treasured artifacts among his fans. Posthumously, Nirvana released an album of their 1994 performance at New York for MTV's 'UnPlugged' show.

1995-Grunge had pretty much officialy been shot in the face.

1996-SoundGarden released their last album as a band in 1996, titled Down on the Upside. Although an excellent album, this album spelled doom for the band. Lead singer Cornell was under heavy drug and alcohol abuse, and differences between band members finally ended with him walking out at the end of a jam session. But their was still hope for grunge although very little. Dave Grohl(drummer of Nirvana) created his own band The Foo Fighters. They were and still are one of the best bands ever made.
Now a new type of grunge was about to hit. Rap-Rock this paved the way for bands such as Korn, and my personal favorite band Rage against the machine.

What exactly is grunge?

Grunge is what spawned from the early 90s it is a mix of punk and heavy metal it is far from heavy metal though it is heavy metal in the sense that the guitar is mostly from the 70s and 80s the vocals are mostly punk. If you have never heard of grunge just imagine Black flag or the stooges(both are amazing bands definitley listen to them sometime.) The earliest grunge bands are probably Soundgarden, Green river, and mudhoney. Those bands were much heavier than the next wave of Grunge-Nirvana- this wave was more melodic than the previous. While Nirvana hit it big grunge was quickily becoming the most popular form of rock ever.

Why was the grunge era started?

This blog is about the age of rock called Grunge(the 90s). which is personally my fav. kind of rock because it basically was created to make a new era of music in which you dont dance unlike every other previous era up to the 90s. Previously evert kind of music had some regulated dance for it. Grunge eliminated that it let you do what you wanted to do.
